Gordon Parks internationally renowned photographer, filmmaker, poet, novelist, and composer was born in Fort Scott, Kansas in 1912. He was the first African American to work at Lifemagazine and was the director of 1971 film Shaft. Known as a Renaissance Man Mr. Parks' legacy continues on today with a school named in his honor and through the work of The Gordon Parks Foundation.
