Oyè Diran’s photographs operate in a charged space, where identity is not fixed but continuously shaped through gesture, memory, and performance. Working across portraiture and fashion, Diran constructs images that feel both intimate and symbolic, drawing on personal and cultural narratives to create scenes that are at once grounded and aspirational.
This private presentation introduces The Weight and the Wings, a new body of work that marks a significant development in the artist’s practice. Across these images, figures move through carefully composed environments that suggest both protection and constraint: held, adorned, elevated, and, at times, suspended.
As Diran has described, the work explores “the space between how family is seen and how it is lived,” foregrounding the quiet shifts that shape identity across generations. Alongside this new series, the viewing room brings together a selection of earlier photographs that illuminate the foundations of Diran’s visual language.
