I am delighted to be attending the Black Portraiture[s]: The Black Body in the West conference. Hosted by the Tisch School of Art – Department of Photography and Imaging at New York University and the W.E. DuBois Institute at Harvard; participants and panelist from all over the world will discuss the black body and explore new ways to discuss how the black body is imagined in the west.
Today the auditorium of l’Ecole nationale superieure des beaux-arts was standing room only. In French and English were topics about race, imagery and it’s impact on our current society; including Exoticism and Ambiguity. The 140 Panelists are experts in their fields and well versed in the academics of their topics. I am looking forward to the visuals and the dialog that will sure to stimulate much thought and observation.
